Nalbinding class at the Folk School, April 2016

Classes!
My next scheduled class will be Nalbinding, June 8-10, 2018 at the John C. Campbell Folk School in Brasstown, NC. This class typically fills up, so don't wait to sign up! The catalog at the Folk School is amazing, so don't miss a chance to go to "summer camp for grownups". :-)

I have a number of weekends available this winter to teach, and I love teaching, so if you have an idea for a class, guild workshop, or whatever, feel free to contact me! I teach felting, nuno felting, knitting, nalbinding, spinning, fleece prep/carding/combing, and tablet weaving.

I have several things in the works:

My Etsy store (laurafelts) actually has everything listed that I have finished and available! WOW!! Now I'm in the process of improving my photos and listings, and adding new items for the fall. I also take custom orders, although I don't have any listed, but feel free to contact me with any questions or requests.

I have been knitting since I was 5 years old, and pretty much non-stop since some time in high school. I typically design my own sweaters these days, so I am working on writing up the designs, making youtube videos of techniques I use, and documenting my projects on Ravelry. My youtube channel is LauraFelts1, and my Ravelry profile is LauraFelts! (Are you sensing a theme here? LOL) My latest video (which got added to the wrong channel, because I am still YouTube challenged!) is Knitting Back Backwards. Because entrelac leg warmers…

I'll be looking for my friends on social media!!

The Handweavers Guild of Tennessee welcomes author and weaver Philis Alvic for a presentation on Arrowcraft Weaving in Gatlinburg, and other weaving centers of eastern Tennessee

Also Saturday, October 21 is Fiber in the Boro, our fall Fiber Festival extraordinaire!

With the chill of fall in the air, (with a vengeance!) thoughts are turning to warm scarves and hats, and holiday gift-giving.

We are going to have so much fun with these easy and fun projects.  The materials are so luscious that you can’t help but love the results. I have new silk elements to play with from Fiber in the Boro, too!!

One of the many shows I am doing this fall is the 2nd Saturday Porter Crossing Arts Market! November 12 and December 10 in East Nashville - check it out at PorterCrossingNashville.com for more info! Noon to 9 p.m., and plan to hit the Family Wash for dinner!

Our wonderful Crafty & Fiber Community in Nashville!

I have found so many fun and inspiring groups of people in Nashville and online, and it is so inspiring to get out of my studio and see what other people are inspired by.  Craftville is a fun group of Nashville young people that have a great vision of a real-life craft community! I’ve joined them, and can’t wait to do more events with the group! Check out craftville.org, or look for their Facebook page or their Etsy team. The last meeting was full of yummy food, exciting networking, talk about classes and more! The next meeting will include a talk on “Are you Etsy Savvy?”

Spinners at Ashland City Summer Fest Sat. 6/17!

The spinning group will be demonstrating in Ashland City on Saturday the 16th of June.
This Summer Fest is supposed to take place outside under trees.
Ashland City River Bluff Park is at 175 Old Cumberland Street

Below is a post from the email that Ethel-Lonniell sent out. Unfortunately, I will be out of town, but there will be lots of lovely folks there - new spinners are always welcome, and there are plenty of folks more than happy to get you started!

Greetings!

I hope many of you are planning to come to the May meeting this Saturday in Nashville at 3507 Belmont Blvd. (in the building behind the Tutor style house).
We will meet from 10-2:00 with potluck at 11:30. We found out at the last Nashville meeting that there are two parking lots that can be used for our new meeting room location. One is the one off Belmont in the regular parking lot and the other is off Graybar. Use either entrance.

We had a nice April meeting, even though we had to meet on the 1st Saturday (conflict at Rock Castle on the 2ns Saturday). Tom's had a designer decorate the back room into a very cute bridal waiting room. Lucky us, we were able to meet in that room. The Plant People met in the front. We had a nice meeting. One of the Plant People may start coming to our meetings. She has a wheel and is an old acquaintance of Beth Hester and Wanda. Also, Ruth Sines and two of her friends stopped by. Ruth is usually at a reenactment, so it was nice to be able to see her in person. Laura, Wanda, Traci, Joy, Jennifer, and I also were present.

After lunch, we headed over to the mansion to look at the loom. Wanda had a small sample rag rug that she borrowed from Mary Schneider. She has been given several colors of carpet warp to warp with. I think we will be using Mary's rag rug as a guide. No definite date had been set for us to meet to weave. Save your cotton pieces. We have not been advised as to how wide the strips need to be cut. We have lots to think about and decide. Wanda will be our leader on this weaving project.

Don't forget that we have been asked to demonstrate in Ashland City in June. Wanda should be getting more information about this event.

Beth and her husband (Steve) are planning to have a Fiber Fest in Dickson (Dickson County Fair Grounds)this month on the 26th. Hopefully everything will go well and this will become a regular May event.
Let's plan to attend and help out if we can. 789-5943.

I hope each of you has received the latest SpinOff.
Think about entering their latest contest. Barbara and I entered once. It was not hard. It was fun to see our handspun yarn in the national magazine.

Hope to see you on Saturday. I have heard from about three new people that are interested in spinning. I hope they will be able to come to a meeting soon. You are always welcome to invite/bring anyone that you know are interested in spinning.

Fiber Fest in Dickson May 26
